In brief
LiquidNotch works on your Mac. It has no account, collects no usage statistics and does not send us your notifications, messages or files. The only internet connections are the ones listed below, each for a specific feature.
Data that stays on your Mac
- Notifications: read from macOS Notification Center (Full Disk Access permission) only to show them in the notch.
- Messages and WhatsApp: the text and photos of the latest message are read from the apps' data on your Mac to show them in the notification.
- Calendars: events are used only for the Join button of online meetings.
- Bluetooth devices: name and battery, for the card that appears when you connect.
- Files in the tray: they stay where they are; LiquidNotch keeps only a reference until you send them or close the tray.
- Settings and trial start: in the preferences, in the Keychain and in a small signed file on the Mac (Shared folder).
Internet connections
- Update check: every half hour, while the app is open, it reads a small file on liquidnotch.pages.dev with the latest version number. It can be turned off in Settings › Account. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any server, logs the IP address of the request.
- License: when you activate the code, and then periodically, the app sends it to our server (liquidnotch.pages.dev), which forwards it to Lemon Squeezy together with the Mac's name to verify it and returns the signed response. A license is valid for one Mac only: to remember which Mac activated it, the server keeps a fingerprint (hash) of the key and an anonymous Mac code, not the key in clear.
- Free trial and server confirmation: to prevent the 3-day trial from restarting at every reinstall and to apply revocations and refunds, at launch and then every few hours the app sends liquidnotch.pages.dev an anonymous Mac code (a hash, not the real ID), the trial start date and, if you have a license, the key's fingerprint (hash). The server replies with a signed confirmation; if the app cannot obtain it for more than 7 days, it stops until it is back online. The server keeps only the anonymous Mac code with the trial start date and the key fingerprints, for as long as they are needed for these purposes. It receives no name, email, notifications, messages or files.
- Refunds and revocations: Lemon Squeezy notifies our server when a license is deactivated, expires or the order is refunded; the server remembers only its fingerprint (hash) in order to block it.
- WhatsApp Web and Telegram Web (only if you connect them in Settings › Permissions): to reply from the notch the app opens those services' official pages, which connect to their servers just like in a browser. The session stays on your Mac.
- Claude and ChatGPT usage (only if you connect them in Settings › AI tools): the app reads the usage limits from your account on those sites.
- Music: the song's artwork may be downloaded from Spotify's servers.
Purchase
The purchase takes place on Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the reseller (merchant of record): it collects your name, email and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, email and order details to manage the license, support and refunds, and we keep them for the time required by tax obligations.
